Messini was founded on a simple observation: most Canadian small and mid-market businesses get either institutional capital with no operating help, or operating help with no capital — rarely both, and almost never with patient, founder-aligned terms.
Our team has spent 15+ years moving across investment banking, private equity, and operating leadership. We've sat on every side of a transaction — as bankers running auctions, as principals writing equity cheques, and as operators rebuilding companies post-close. Messini is what we wished we'd had as founders ourselves.
We're independent sponsors, not a fund. That means we raise capital deal-by-deal, alongside investors and operating partners who know each business intimately. It also means we can take the time a great deal deserves.

We structure every transaction so that the founder wins post-close — through rollover equity, performance earn-outs, advisory roles, or whatever the right structure happens to be.
No financial engineering theatre.
Returns come from real EBITDA growth, not multiple arbitrage. We invest where we can demonstrably improve the business, not just refinance it.
Operators in the room from day one.
Every deal has an aligned operating partner with relevant experience and skin in the game. No remote-control ownership.
Patient capital, not vintage capital.
We don't have a clock to please. We hold for the right outcome, even if that means seven years instead of three.

Alex has spent 15+ years partnering with founders, executing M&A transactions, and operating businesses across the lower-middle market. Prior to founding Messini Capital, he held roles spanning investment banking, private equity, and operating leadership at Canadian SMEs — collectively touching transactions valued at more than $5B.
Born and raised in Greater Toronto, Alex holds an MBA from a top-tier program and is an active member of Canada's search-fund and independent-sponsor community. He sits on the board of two operating companies and mentors first-time CEOs through several Canadian ETA programs.
